Legendary Actresses and Their Favorite Fragrances.

I decided to write this weeks blog post about some of the most beautiful women to ever grace the silver screen and the perfumes they loved to wear. While these actresses are from an era long ago their beauty is undeniable and the mark they left on cinema forever etched in the annals of time.


Elizabeth Taylor- The beautiful Elizabeth Taylor  won her first Oscar for BUttefield 8 (1961) and her second for Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf (1967) was a huge fan of Bal à Versailles by Jean Desprez. This very feminine perfume was launched in 1962 and is classified as a soft refined oriental fragrance. It is a collection of amazing notes that include rosemary, orange blossom, mandarin orange, cassia, jasmine, rose, bulgarian rose,sandalwood, patchouli, lilac,ylang-ylang and lily-of-the-valley. Miss Taylor wore this fragrance almost everyday.
Bette Davis- Miss Davis best known for her performance's in such movies as Dark Victory (1939),The Corn Is Green (1945) and All About Eve (1950) was a woman who had one particular favorite fragrance,Le De by Givenchy.
Marlene Dietrich- This German blond bombshell who starred in such films as The Blue Angel (1930) Golden Earrings (1947) and A Foreign Affair (1948) wore fragrances as sultry and as sexy as herself. These included Tabac Blond by Caron,Bandit by Robert Piguet(It seems that this was indeed her favorite) and Anglique Encens by Creed which was created just for her.
Ingrid Bergman- Noted for her roles as Emilie Gallatin in the 1941 film Adam Had Four Sons,as Ilsa Lund opposite Humphrey Bogart in the 1942 film Casablanca and as Paula Alquist in the 1944 classic Gaslight. Mitsouko by Guerlain was Miss Bergmans must have perfume.
Audrey Hepburn- The star of the 1961 classic Breakfast at Tiffany's and How To Steal A Million (1966) loved to wear Spring Flower by Creed,L'Interdit by Givenchy and Chamade by Guerlain.
Ann Margret- The once brunette turned red head made quite a name for herself during the 1960's with roles in films such as Bye Bye Birdie (1963),Viva Las Vegas (1964) and Kitten With A Whip (1964). Her must have fragrances are Eau Du Sud by Annick Goutal and Venezia by Adrienne Vittadini.
Grace Kelly- The once Princess of Monaco was also a fine actress. She starred in several feature films including High Noon (1952),Rear Window (1953) and To Catch A Thief (1955). Her go to scents were Estee by Estee Lauder and Fleurissimo by Creed which was created especially for her.
Barbara Stanwyck- Long before she assumed the character Victoria Barkley in The Big Valley Barbara Stanwyck was lighting up the silver screen with her roles in such films as The Lady Eve (1941),The Strange Love Of Martha Ivers (1946) and Sorry Wrong Number (1948). Her main fragrance was Jungle Gardenia by Tuvache.
Sophia Loren- This Italian knockout began her film career at the age of fifteen and would go on to star in such films as The Key (1958),It Started In Naples (1959) and Marriage Italian-Style (1964). Her favorite scents are Irisia by Creed and Diva perfume by Ungaro.
Lauren Bacall- She's probably best known for her starring and co-starring roles in movies opposite Humphrey Bogart such as To Have and Hane Not (1944), Dark Passage (1947) and Key Largo (1948),as well as their subsequent marriage. Miss Bacall was also a wonderful stage actress winning two Tony awards in 1970 and 1981. Her favorite perfumes were Calandre by Paco Rabanne and Diptyque fragrances.

Popular Women's Perfume Of The 1980's.

In this installment of my popular perfumes by the decade series we'll be taking a look at five perfumes from the 80's that were as popular as Madonna and bigger than a John Hughes movie. The 1980's saw a transistion not only in fashion but also in music from the departing decade of the 70's. Disco was giving way to the new sounds of bands like Duran Duran,Culture Club and Wham to name just a few. Bell bottoms were on their last leg and wide lapel shirts and leisure suits were slowly being swept into the dust bin of fashion. Popular Women's Perfume Of The 1960's.

The 1960's proved to be a decade that marked some defining moments in history. Some of those moments included the November 22nd,1963 assasination of President John F Kennedy as his motorcade made its way through the streets of downtown Dallas,Texas. The signing of the The Civil Rights Act on July 2nd,1964 by President Johnson. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon on July 20th,1969. In that same year the massive outdoor music/art festival Woodstock took place on Max Yasgur's 600 acre dairy farm near Bethel,New York between August 15th and August 18th. The 60's also marked the beginning of the hippie movement or the "counter-culture" which was marked by the "Riots On Sunset" in Hollywood on November 12th,1966. These riots were in protest,mainly by younger people who were demonstrating against a 10:00 pm curfew that was in place to help ease congestion in and around the Sunset Strip during the nighttime hours.
